Social Justice
Temple Micah and its community are built on openness, so it’s only logical that our hands extend beyond our physical borders. Tikkun Olam is our ethical obligation to improve our world. Our members have opportunities to expand social justice and discover a global perspective through volunteerism and travel as part of the Temple Micah experience.
Micah members share a belief that every individual deserves equal rights and opportunities. Below, please find a list of social justice partnerships and ways to get involved.
Guns to Gardens
As a member congregation of the Colorado Faith Communities United Against Gun Violence, we frequently participate in Guns to Gardens Metro Denver events to help community members safely dispose of firearms and turn them into gardening tools. Food Drives for Jewish Family Service
Every year, during the High Holydays, we collect food for Jewish Family Service’s Weinberg Food Pantry. In 2025, we collected nearly 1,400 pounds of food, the third-highest amount among local synagogues! Please bring nonperishable donations when you come to services on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur.
Toy Drives for Montview Elementary School
During the winter holidays, our congregation collects toys for Montview Elementary School students. Drop donations of new, unwrapped gifts for ages Pre-K to 5th grade in a bin in the Montview Presbyterian Church lobby in December. Look for updates in the Micah Messenger newsletter with a link to an Amazon Wish List and more details.
Social Justice Initiative Talks During Religious School
Throughout the school year, representatives from nonprofit organizations present information to Religious School families. These Social Justice Initiative talks offer opportunities for congregants to learn about social justice efforts currently being carried out by community-based organizations in east Denver. The aim of these talks is to build understanding and awareness through accessible, values-driven learning. During the 2025-26 school year, representatives from The Fax Partnership and the Urban Land Conservancy discussed their organizations’ work, the obstacles they faced, and their successes. Look for more of these sessions in the 2026-27 school year, with ways your family can volunteer.
Donation to The Center on Colfax
In June 2026, Temple Micah hosted a Pride Month movie screening and discussion of “The Sabbath Queen,” and donated a portion of the proceeds to The Center on Colfax, a local LGBTQ+ community center.
